This pair of sculptures is carved from solid teak in an abstract, biomorphic style, each depicting a seated figure with head resting on a raised knee in a thinking pose. The forms are reduced to smooth, continuous curves, with the head, torso and limbs merging into a single unbroken silhouette rather than being carved as separate parts.
Each figure balances on a small triangular base, the weight of the composition resting on a narrow point of contact. The two pieces share the same seated pose at different scales, with the larger figure standing noticeably taller than the smaller. The teak displays a warm reddish-brown tone with visible grain running through the curved forms, and a polished finish that catches the light along the rounded surfaces.
Construction is solid throughout, carved from a single piece of wood in each case. A well-matched pair, sculptural rather than functional, suited to a shelf, console or desk where the paired scale can be appreciated together.
