A rare and striking large rectangular wall mirror in solid pine by Aksel Kjersgaard for his eponymous workshop in Odder, Denmark — confirmed by the original maker's stamp on the back reading "AKSEL KJERSGAARD / ODDER / MADE IN DENMARK."
While Aksel Kjersgaard is best known for his meticulously crafted teak and rosewood mirrors of the 1950s and 1960s, this piece belongs to the pine furniture line introduced in the 1970s — a distinct body of work that reflects the decade's broader shift toward honest, material-led design in Scandinavian furniture. The frame is constructed from solid pine in thick, flat profile sections, assembled with the characteristic exposed corner joint construction for which Kjersgaard's workshop was admired — precise, structural, and entirely without decoration. The amber-warm grain of the pine, alive with knots and dramatic figuring at the corners, gives the piece a raw, natural authority that reads beautifully in a contemporary interior.
