A set of six solid oak dining chairs by Henning Kjærnulf, Denmark, 1960s. Each crest rail is hand-carved into a sculptural, scalloped silhouette, stacked above three horizontal slats that taper toward the seat in a rhythmic, diminishing cadence.
The pierced, almost zoomorphic profile of the top rail is among Kjærnulf's most recognizable design motifs, giving the set a sculptural identity legible across a room. Turned front legs with ring detailing anchor the design, while the rear legs rake back in a single continuous line from crest to floor — a hallmark of his considered approach to Danish joinery.
Seats are upholstered in a cream bouclé, recently re-covered, offering tactile contrast against the warm, ray-figured oak grain. A manufacturer's label, stamped "EG Kvalitetsmøbel — Design, Kontekst & Kvalitet," is affixed to the underside of one seat, documenting the workshop responsible for production.
Sold as a full dining set of six, the honesty of materials and restrained carving make these chairs equally suited to a Japandi dining room, an Organic Modern interior, or a Nordic-inflected farmhouse table.
