A set of six solid pine dining chairs by an unknown Danish cabinetmaker, Denmark, 1970s. The defining structural feature is the floating single-rail backrest — a horizontally upholstered bolster suspended between two squared uprights and anchored by a pronounced upper crossbar, creating an open, architectural back construction of considerable visual weight.
Each frame is built from tight-grained, heavily figured pine with pronounced knot detailing and tightly packed annual rings that speak directly to the honesty of materials central to the Danish workshop tradition. The squared legs and uprights are chamfered to a softly rounded profile at key junctions — a labour-intensive workshop detail that distinguishes these from production-line furniture. Visible dowel-peg joinery punctuates the side rails with quiet rhythmic quality.
The seats and backrests are freshly upholstered in a dense, curly bouclé in a warm oat-grey tone — tactile, voluminous, and precisely calibrated against the amber pine. This set integrates directly into Japandi, Organic Modern, Wabi-Sabi, or Hygge-driven interiors where materiality and craft tradition take precedence.
