This sofa is built in solid oak in the Renaissance Revival style, likely produced in Denmark in the early 20th century. The frame stands on bun feet, rising through baluster-turned front supports carved with a barley-twist motif above squared, fluted sections. The apron is carved in a continuous egg-and-dart border above a band of gadrooning, with scrolled acanthus brackets at each front leg. Armrests are scrolled and shaped by hand, terminating over the turned supports. The piece has been reupholstered in a black and cream striped wool-blend fabric, finished with contrast cord piping along the seams. Proportions are generous and upright, with a deep seat and tall, gently curved back. The carving throughout is crisp and well executed, with an even, aged patina to the exposed oak.
