A fine Danish Brutalist oak chest of drawers — attributed to Henning Kjærnulf (also known as Henry Kjærnulf) — represents one of the most compelling expressions of mid-century Danish cabinetmaking, where Scandinavian modernism collides with historical ornament in a way no other designer of the period achieved with such conviction.
The piece is constructed entirely in solid oak, its warm blonde grain lending the chest an immediate material presence. A precisely carved dentil cornice crowns the case, a hallmark detail associated with Kjærnulf's furniture vocabulary, here executed with the crispness of a master carpenter. Three deep, generously proportioned drawers slide on well-fitted runners, each front framed by subtle moulded edges. Original cast-brass pulls in an ornate, flame-shaped Baroque form add a sculptural counterpoint to the clean architectural body. The piece stands on elegant scroll-cut bracket feet — a period detail that grounds the composition with quiet authority.
This chest functions equally as a bedroom dresser, hallway commode, or statement living room piece. Its natural, lightly aged patina confirms an honest vintage character without compromise.
