Danish Brutalist Limed Oak Highboard, Vamo Sønderborg, Manner of Kjærnulf, 1960s

A monumental and highly sculptural Danish highboard in solid limed oak, produced by the prestigious Vamo Sønderborg (Vamo Møbelfabrik) in the 1960s. Executed in the distinct Danish Brutalist style, this cabinet is attributed in manner to the celebrated architect Henning Kjærnulf.

This piece is a masterclass in "Baroque Modernism." The facade features three doors adorned with Kjærnulf's signature razor-sharp fluted relief panels, set within deep, architectural frames. A continuous dentil cornice runs along the top, reinforcing the highboard's commanding presence. Below, three spacious drawers are fitted with original turned mushroom-style oak knobs.

The bleached/limed oak finish provides a luminous, Nordic warmth that sits effortlessly in contemporary interiors, pairing beautifully with natural materials like bouclé, linen, and stone. As a confirmed piece from Vamo Sønderborg (marked with the original maker’s stamp), it represents the pinnacle of mid-century Scandinavian cabinetry.
