A rare and desirable pair of Danish Cabinetmaker lounge chairs from the 1940s — commanding examples of Scandinavian Modern design at its most generous and tactile, presented in entirely new bouclé upholstery of exceptional quality.
These voluminous, deeply comfortable club chairs embody the transitional moment in Danish design when the rigid formality of Art Deco gave way to softer, more organic forms — full-bodied silhouettes, rounded high backrests, and arms that envelop rather than direct. The defining detail is the pair of sculptural wooden handles set vertically into the outer face of each armrest: a refined, architectural element that elevates these chairs far beyond anonymous production and speaks directly to the hand of a skilled Danish cabinetmaker. The splayed, tapered wood legs add further lightness and poise to what is otherwise an expansively proportioned form.
The upholstery is entirely new, professionally fitted in a cream bouclé — the material that has become the defining textile expression of the current market for mid-century Scandinavian seating. The tactile warmth of the bouclé is in perfect harmony with the warmly patinated wood frame throughout.
