A distinguished and beautifully preserved Danish Art Deco lounge armchair by Alfred Christensen for Slagelse Møbelværk — one of the most collectible and consistently sought-after combinations in 1940s Scandinavian seating — retaining its original olive green mohair velvet upholstery with the characteristic gold rope cord trim.
The chair is a superb early example of Christensen's elegant, transitional design language: the high, subtly winged back is button-tufted in a restrained, grid arrangement, while the open armrests — sculpted in dark mahogany-stained beech and flowing in a characteristic S-curve from back to seat — demonstrate the refined organic quality that sets this designer apart from contemporaries. The splayed, tapered legs complete a silhouette that is at once architectural and warmly inviting.
The original moss green mohair velvet upholstery is a rare survival — richly toned, with the deep pile and hand-applied rope border intact. This colourway and textile together make this a particularly desirable and presentation-ready example. The frame is structurally excellent.
