A rare and highly desirable set of six Danish oak dining chairs in the manner of Henning Kjærnulf (Henry Kjaernulf), retaining their original Olmerdug wool upholstery — an exceptional survivor combination that distinguishes this set decisively from the majority of Kjærnulf chairs offered on the market today. Original Olmerdug on a complete set of six is genuinely uncommon and represents a compelling argument for preservation over reupholstery.
The chairs feature a sculptural, undulating ladder-back design with organically carved wave-form rails pierced by distinctive cloud-shaped cut-outs — a rarer and more refined variant of Kjærnulf's back vocabulary than the widely known Razorblade. The solid bleached oak frames are executed with the exceptional grain selection and carving precision that defines Kjærnulf's best work: sculpted sabre legs, a scalloped front seat apron, and nailhead trim framing the upholstered seat. The overall expression is lighter and more elegant than the heavier Brutalist pieces for which Kjærnulf is most celebrated, combining traditional Danish craft with a distinctly modern fluency.
The traditional striped Olmerdug wool — a woven textile with deep roots in Danish material culture — is presented here in a rich indigo and navy stripe. The upholstery is original and in very good condition for its age.
